Don’t expect an all-electric Volkswagen camper anytime soon, report says

There is bad news for those hoping for an all-electric Volkswagen camper anytime soon. According to a new report, Volkswagen currently has no plans to bring an all-electric camper van to the market, despite the company’s increased focus on electric mobility.

The news comes as Volkswagen has taken huge steps in its shift to electric vehicles. All of the company’s upcoming models will be available with either hybrid or electric powertrains, and Volkswagen plans to roll out an all electric ID.4 SUV this fall. However, it appears that an all-electric camper will not be part of the immediate future.

The report, which was released by German automotive trade publication Automobilwoche, claims that Volkswagen’s current priority is on an all-electric sedan and a range of SUVs. An electric version of the classic camper van—which first became popular in the 1960s—is currently not on the company’s radar, according to the report.

That’s likely to be a disappointment to many fans of the iconic van. Its design has remained virtually unchanged in more than five decades, and it is still a popular vehicle, especially among campers and outdoor enthusiasts.

It’s unclear if Volkswagen will eventually make an all-electric camper van, but it appears that this is currently not a priority for the company. As Volkswagen shifts its focus to electric vehicles, it appears that the classic camper will remain a petroleum-powered vehicle for the foreseeable future.
