The internet was abuzz recently when an artificial intelligence-powered grocery bot called Chef Watson suggested making a sandwich with two slices of “POISON BREAD”, which led to concerns among the public over the safety of AI-generated recipes.

The recipe was proposed by the bot, which is developed and maintained by IBM and is available to anyone with an internet connection. Chef Watson utilizes a sophisticated AI program that suggests recipes by analyzing different ingredients, flavors, tastes, and cultural trends to come up with new creations.

Unfortunately, this particular recipe, dubbed the “poison bread sandwich”, included acetic acid as one of the ingredients, a chemical compound usually found in vinegar that is toxic when ingested and can even be fatal in large quantities. The suggestion of using this compound to make a sandwich for breakfast left many wondering if such an AI-powered grocery bot should even be in existence.

The vendor who supplied acetic acid to Chef Watson quickly issued a statement explaining that the compound is not intended to be used directly in food preparations, and they are taking immediate steps to update their system to prevent further such errors in the future.
