GM’s New $130,000 Cadillac Escalade IQ Won’t Have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto

Cadillac recently announced the much-anticipated launch of their new $130,000 electric Escalade IQ. While the electric SUV comes with a host of features, it is missing two of the most popular in-vehicle technology options: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ is powered by two electric motors and a 420kW battery, and is capable of traveling up to 300 miles between charges. Its price tag of $130,000 makes it one of the most expensive electric SUVs on the market. It also offers a range of other features, such as a panoramic roof, enhanced rearview mirrors, Autopilot autonomous driving functions, and adaptive cruise control.

However, despite its suite of bells and whistles, the Escalade IQ won’t have two crucial technologies that many consumers are expecting in an electric vehicle: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The omission of these two services means that Escalade IQ drivers won’t have access to popular smartphone features, such as the ability to control apps on their phones from the car’s dashboard.

It’s not just Cadillac that is omitting these features from their vehicles. Other luxury automakers, including Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, and Maserati, have all decided to leave out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from their vehicles. Automakers cite cost and customer privacy as the two main reasons for not including these technologies.

The exclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto makes the Cadillac Escalade IQ a less attractive option, especially at its hefty price tag. While the Tesla Model X, which starts at $77,000, offers both services as standard, the Cadillac Escalade IQ does not, severely limiting the appeal of the vehicle to tech-savvy customers.

Overall, Cadillac’s new electric Escalade IQ is an impressive vehicle, but its omission of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto will likely make it a less attractive option for some consumers.
