Summer of 1993 was a classic movie season in American film history. One of the biggest crowd-pleasers that summer was none other than Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster adventure Jurassic Park. Released in theaters on June 11, 1993, the groundbreaking dinosaur epic quickly became an instant classic, captivating millions and becoming one the highest-grossing films of all time. Now 30 years later, Jurassic Park is about to stomp back into theaters with a special RealD 3D re-release to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The movie is set to embark on an extensive summerwide release in more than 80 North American theatres using RealD 3D, beginning April 5. It will be the first time the movie will be presented in 3D in cinemas and will surely be an exciting treat for both fans of the movie, and fans of 3D cinematic experiences alike.
Though the original masterpiece was released before the era of 3D, the film’s special effects still hold up decades later. Director Steven Spielberg’s innovative and meticulous attention to detail when crafting his dinosaurs, and bringing them to life for the audience, sets it apart as a hallmark of the highest standard of special effect filmmaking.
For Jurassic Park’s return to the big screen, Universal announced some other key features of the movie’s anniversary celebration, including a digital restoration. This restoration is set to include never-before-seen high dynamic range (HDR) rendering of the dinosaurs and scenery, which will further enhance the immersive 3D experience.
In addition, a limited edition 4K Ultra HD anniversary Blu-ray of Jurassic Park will also be released April 16th with exclusive extras, including deleted scenes, a behind the scenes making-of documentary and more.
As a special bonus, some theaters will also feature exclusive giveaways including collectible dinosaur 3D glasses to make moviegoers feel like they are really in Jurassic Park.
Whether reexperiencing the movie with a special edition purchase, or seeing it for the first time (or for the hundredth time) in 3D theatres this April, moviegoers should get ready to follow Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler, and Dr. Malcolm on their unforgettable journey into Jurassic Park in 3D – it promises to be a thrilling ride.
