Gothic 1 Remake new trailer shows glorious in-engine footage of the Old Camp

Gothic 1, the cult classic action-RPG developed by Piranha Bytes and published by JoWood Productions, was recently given a new lease of life with a remastered version announced for 2021. The new remake of the game has been revealed in a brand new trailer that showcases the Old Camp in all its revitalised glory.

The trailer begins with a nostalgic view of The Old Camp at sunset. We are then treated to glimpses of various locations from a bird’s eye view, such as the iconic mining site and the old hero’s campfire. It’s all been beautifully rendered with the game’s new Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine – the difference between the original and the remake are instantly noticeable.

The in-engine footage also reveals that several aspects of Gothic 1 have been remastered and improved upon, such as the character designs and textures. The character models are now more detailed and there has been significant slimming down of the dialogue, keeping the more important conversations. The music has also been re-recorded and now contains atmospheric ambient sounds that add depth to the game world.

Towards the end of the trailer, we see a shot of the hero taking on a group of orcs, firing a bow and attacking them with sword and shield. The combat looks fast-paced and fun, and it looks far better than ever before. The remake also brings enhanced difficulty levels and a ‘Classic Mode’ which allows players to play through the original game, just as it was when it released in 2001.

Overall, the trailer for Gothic 1 Remake shows some impressive in-engine footage and it looks like it’s going to finally bring the RPG classic to modern consoles. With improved graphics and revitalised game mechanics, it looks like Gothic 1 is definitely going to be worth looking forward to.
