In recent days, tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have taken their competitive rivalry to a new level. Musk, the entrepreneurial genius behind such ventures as Tesla and SpaceX, suggested on social media that any disputes between himself and the Facebook chief executive should be settled in an old-fashioned street brawl in ancient Rome.
The dispute between the two rivals has been building for several years. Musk has been critical of Zuckerberg’s stance on regulating tech companies and AI development. Zuckerberg has fired back by calling out Musk’s continued involvement in Mars exploration and other projects outside of his comfort zone.
Musk recently took to twitter to suggest that any further disputes between the two should be settled in a “corrective boxing match in ancient Rome.” He further suggested that the brawl should be held in a colosseum.
Though the tweet could be interpreted as a humorous jab at Zuckerberg, it is hard to ignore the competitive edge that lies beneath the surface. After all, the two tech billionaires have been at loggerheads for some time now, with Musk making his opinion on Facebook’s policies and political leanings known left and right.
Musk’s tweet has even prompted some to suggest a legitimate boxing match between the two tech giants. This is not the first time the idea has been floated, though it’s unclear if either have seriously considered the proposition.
Regardless, it’s clear that the rivalry between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg is far from over. While it now looks unlikely that we will actually get to see the two billionaires duke it out in an ancient Roman colosseum, if the two ever do decide to settle their differences in a physical brawl we’ll be sure to hear about it.
