Firefox’s Android app is getting proper support for extensions once again

Mozilla’s Firefox browser has been providing its users with the flexibility to customize their browsing experience by adding extensions for years. Unfortunately for Android users, this feature was never really supported by the Firefox app on the platform. Now, Mozilla is finally addressing this issue with the launch of “Firefox Preview”, a test version of the browser that supports extensions on Android.

The new version of Firefox for Android allows users to choose from a variety of extensions from popular sites such as Reddit, Pinterest, and Evernote. These extensions enable users to perform task quickly such as share and manage bookmarks, block annoying ads, and even automatically fill in passwords. In addition, Mozilla also introduced a brand new “Collections” feature that allows users to store and organize their favorite extensions for quick access.

As of now, the Firefox Preview version of the browser only supports a limited number of extensions, but Mozilla has stated that they will be increasing the amount of extensions supported overtime. Additionally, the existing versions of the Firefox app on Android do support some add-ons, but only a handful and none of the popular ones. With the addition of Firefox Preview, users can now enjoy a similar experience to desktop when it comes to customizing their browsing experience on their phones.

Still in its early stages, Firefox Preview is currently available in beta for testing purposes. Though the browser is not fully stable yet, it is shaping up to be quite an intriguing alternative to other mobile browsers. That said, Mozilla is expected to roll out a stable version of Firefox Preview in the coming weeks that will finally give Android users the ability to customize their browser experience with extensions.

All in all, the addition of extension support in the Firefox on Android is indeed a much needed upgrade. Not only will users be able to take advantage of this feature, but developers will also have a chance to create more extensions for the platform. Overall, Firefox Preview looks to be a great step forward towards a better mobile browsing experience.
