As any real fan of the fantasy video game classic known as Baldur’s Gate 3 can tell you, the game released on October 6th, 2020 and was an instant hit. A flood of gamers jumped into the game the first weekend, eager to explore the world of Faerûn and take on its various challenges. Even more impressive than this initial burst of activity, however, is the fact that one small group of dedicated gamers managed to finish the game in that same time period.
That’s right; a group of 368 gamers somehow managed to complete Baldur’s Gate 3 in a single weekend – a feat that must have required countless hours of play and dedication.
So what drove these players to push themselves to such an extreme? What motivated them to go the extra mile and speed through a game like Baldur’s Gate 3, rather than taking their time to enjoy the full experience?
For starters, it’s clear that many of these players saw the game as a challenge – a chance to test their skills and prove their worth as gamers. Baldur’s Gate 3 offers an especially deep and rewarding game experience, so it’s easy to imagine why some players would want to take on that challenge and see how far they could get in such a short period of time.
Then there’s the fact that finishing Baldur’s Gate 3 in a weekend is an impressive achievement in itself. Such a feat is sure to win the respect of one’s peers and a place in gaming history – something that many players could undoubtedly find attractive.
Not to mention, of course, that the game is just plain compelling. As the developers at Larian Studios have made abundantly clear, the world of Forgotten Realms (and the events surrounding the game) offer plenty of interesting plot points and mysteries. All of these drive the players to move forward in their quest, no matter the obstacles.
So, to the 368 players who have beaten Baldur’s Gate 3 on the same weekend, we salute you! And to the rest of us, we can learn a lesson from their example – never underestimate the potential of the human spirit. No matter the challenge, there are always those who refuse to rest until they reach their goal.
