WhatsApp is about to get its first AI trick – and it could be just the start

With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, it’s time to look at how it’s changing the way we communicate on the most popular messaging app, WhatsApp.

WhatsApp, the multi-billion-user messaging app owned by Facebook, is reportedly about to debut its first AI-based feature – Smart Reply. This feature will suggest appropriate responses to user messages, such as “Thanks” or “I’m running late”. It will be customizable based on user’s individual preferences, meaning it will be able to better understand the conversation as it progresses.

The feature is designed to help users quickly and efficiently respond to messages, without taking time out of their day for prolonged typing. WhatsApp hopes this will make the messaging experience more intuitive and enjoyable.

This won’t be the only AI-based feature that may be added to WhatsApp in the future. In fact, the app is also reportedly working on its own virtual assistant, which would provide helpful advice for users on topics like local restaurants, movies, and even financial advice. Additionally, voice recognition and natural language processing could also be used in the future to allow for voice messages to be sent and for natural language queries to be made.

In the near future, we may even see more advanced AI features that allow for personalized recommendations, such as movie choices based on user’s past preferences. We could also see AI being used to help monitor and filter content sent via the messaging app, offering a greater sense of safety and security to its billions of users.

WhatsApp’s first AI trick may be just the start – there is potential for many more features to be added in the future. As AI continues to advance, we’ll likely see the messaging app incorporate more A-based features designed to make users’ lives easier and more secure.
