It’s no surprise that many avid gamers have been looking forward to Gamescom Opening Night Live, an event where they look forward to finding out about the latest game titles to come. Unfortunately, in what some may find as a let-down, Geoff Keighley, the event’s host, has recently warned Gamecom goers not to expect too many new game announcements.
Keighley shared his sentiment on Twitter. Writing, “As much as I love big surprises in my shows, the world isn’t ready for lots of game reveals right now. So as we finalize the #gamescom Opening Night Live show on August 27th, there won’t be a huge emphasis on world premieres and new game announcements.”
This does not mean entirely no big announcements from the games industry will be shared on the big night. Keighley stated that the show will still feature highlights from the hottest upcoming games, giving gamers the ability to get a glimpse of something that was not yet seen.
One of the confirmed reveals that will happen during the show is a brand new look at 343 Industries’ upcoming Halo Infinite, the latest installment in the long-running Halo franchide. Other than that, not much has been revealed.
The lack of new game announcements should come as no shock to many, considering the pandemic that has been going on for the past few months and the impact it has had on the gaming industry. For many, physical events simply are just not feasible at this time, making it even more difficult than it already was to produce such a massive show, especially with the world in the state it is right now.
Even though there’s bound to be a few letdowns due to the lack of new game announcements, Gamescom Opening Night Live should still be a great event for gamers who want to get their hands on the latest info about upcoming titles. They just have to keep in mind what Keighley said and lower their expectations just a bit.
