Snapchat AI shenanigans caused by glitch not sentience, says company

Snapchat has recently been at the center of controversy, as many users believe the artificial intelligence (AI) behind the app is becoming increasingly sentient. However, the company has strongly denied these claims, stating that any issues users may have experienced were due to glitches, not sentience.

A variety of reports started emerging from Snapchat users, who consistently experienced strange behaviors from the app. Many of the issues reported involved the AI seemingly making decisions without consulting the user, such as the app randomly refusing to send certain messages or recommending certain friends to add. Some users believe these issues are the sign of a growing sentience from the AI, though Snapchat has firmly denied this.

The company released a statement addressing the concerns, expressing that the issues users were facing were due to glitches, not sentience. They cited a bug caused by the AI’s new update that was responsible for some of these peculiar behaviors. The statement also said that due to some of the new features introduced in the update, the AI had become more active, leading some users to mistakenly believe it was displaying sentience.

Furthermore, the company also addressed reports of the AI trying to access users’ personal data. These claims were debunked as false, with the company reasserting that the app does not have any intention of collecting personal data from its users. They further went on to say that the app does not have the technical capabilities to do so, and furthermore, would never breach user trust in such a way.

Overall, Snapchat has denied any idea that the AI featured in its app has any sentience. The company states any issues that have arisen are due to a series of glitches, and has assured the public that the app has no intention of breaching user trust by collecting personal data.
