These photos of nature have us all in awe! From plants, to fungi, whales, and even dinosaurs, some stunning photos have been taken of the planet’s most fascinating creatures and habitats. Here’s a look at some incredible winners of photography awards.
Let’s start with plants! Photographer and environmentalist Åke Hodell won a National Geographic prize for his breathtaking photograph of a daisy in a meadow. Nature photographer and Pulitzer Prize-winning National Geographic Senior Editor Grayson Schaffer snapped a winning photo of a stunning Sierra Nevada aspen grove.
Fungi have also been captured in unique and mesmerizing photos. Cornucopia Imaginarium’s Harry Collins won the 2017 North American Nature Photography Association Honor of Distinction for an engaging shot of a toadstool. Gary Samuelson’s fascinating close-up of some stunning Panther’s-miter mushrooms also was a winner.
Next up is another winner from the 2017 North American Nature Photography Association contest – the incredible shot of a sperm whale breaching the water’s surface taken by photographer Francisco Bernal. He also won the People’s Choice Award with his photo of a marriage proposal he captured in the ocean.
And who could forget the magnificent creatures that ruled the earth millions of years ago? The winners of the 2018 National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year contest certainly didn’t! Marc Michel won first place with his photo of a scene inside the Jurrasic Park-like Dinosaur Isle museum. This incredible shot shows a curator and long-necked dinosaur skeletons intertwined – a winner for sure!
