In recent weeks, Samsung has been making waves in the tech world with their highly anticipated foldable phone experience. However, for those who can’t afford the luxury of such a device, Samsung is now trying to entice them with a fake foldable experience.
The South Korean tech giant released an “Experience Kit” on its website, which contains a foldable phone stand, stickers and even a soft cover to give users the illusion that they are holding a physical foldable phone in their hands. It is also advertised as being “the easiest and quickest way to get a feel for the foldable experience”.
The “Experience Kit” has been designed to replicate the unique Ubuntu Edge folding display, which is Samsung’s foldable phone. It contains a foldable phone stand that supports both landscape and portrait position for viewing. Additionally, a pre-installed sticker sheet on the back of the stand reproduces the design of a real foldable phone. The soft cover also consists of faux-foldable straps that make it look like you’re actually carrying a real foldable phone.
It has been argued that Samsung’s move to entice iPhone users with a fake foldable experience is an attempt to create a sense of desire for Samsung’s own foldable device among those who are not even interested in such a device. While it is an ingenious way to attract attention towards the foldable experience, it is also important for Samsung acknowledge the fact that most people will still not be able to afford the steep price that comes with a real foldable device.
It is highly unlikely that Samsung’s “Experience Kit” will be able to convince iPhone users to shell out the high cost for a foldable phone. However, it is a clever way to introduce the foldable phone experience to a wider audience, and could potentially provide more users with the opportunity to experience the foldable phone technology.
