Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty gets new trailer in Gamescom opening ceremony

Gamescom—the world’s biggest gaming conference—has finally opened its gates for gaming enthusiasts around the world. As part of the opening ceremony of 2019’s Gamescom, CD Projekt Red, the developer behind the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, released a new trailer for the game.

Titled “Phantom Liberty”, the trailer opens with a female protagonist walking up to the gravestone of a Cyberpunk character in a cemetery. As she looks upon the grave, a man with glowing eyes appears beside her. “What’s the matter?”, he says in a deep voice. “The world’s imploding,” she says, “it’s time for a change.”

From there, the trailer cuts to a world of neon signs, skyscrapers, and pedestrians walking in an endless parade of cybernetically enhanced technology. We then see glimpses of characters from the Cyberpunk universe, including the non-player-characters, or NPCs, that inhabit the world. We also get a better view of the protagonist, who appears to own some kind of cybernetic implant. Finally, we are treated to a stunning cinematic shot of the protagonist, as well as a glimpse of the game’s new weapons and other technology.

According to CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, single-player RPG set in the near future. Players will take on the role of a criminal operating from an ancient coastal megacity called Night City. The game features a unique set of rules and characters, from cyborgs to corporate overlords, and a wide variety of weapons and equipment.

The trailer for Phantom Liberty was met with overwhelming praise from gamers and fans alike. CD Projekt Red has already released their post-Gamescom analysis, in which they report that excitement for the game was significantly higher after the trailer release. Judging from the trailer’s reception, it seems like the game could be another huge success for the developer.

With its stunning visuals, original world and characters, and engaging narrative, Cyberpunk 2077 looks to be shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of all time. We’ll just have to wait and see how the game fares when it releases next year.
