Windows 11 update crashes and burns on some PCs due to ‘unsupported CPU’ error

For many PC owners, the expectation of the welcome new features and faster performance brought by the much-heralded Windows 11 update quickly descended into a crushing disappointment when their computers refused to install the new software.

The cause of the problem eventually became known as the ‘unsupported CPU’ error, causing a furor among the millions of frustrated owners unable to update their operating systems. Microsoft has since apologised for the oversight, citing human error as the cause of the mistake that has seen the update fail on some PCs.

The ‘unsupported CPU’ error appears after the user input a product key and begun the installation of Windows 11. The cause of the error is linked to the way Windows 11 identifies CPU chips, using their specifications and factories to determine compatibility. Unfortunately, for some PCs, the Windows 11 update, incorrectly identifies their CPUs as incompatible – leading to the error message and eventual refusal to install.

Fortunately, Microsoft has identified the root of the problem and released a fix for the ‘unsupported CPU’ error. However, the fixing process itself falls far short of ideal, with users required to make adjustments to their desktop registry settings and Trey Client.

The whole situation has sparked considerable disappointment among Windows 11 users, who have seen other PC owners able to upgrade to Windows 11 and enjoy its perks unpersuaded. Microsoft has apologised for the frustration caused by its error, and while it is impossible to deny the mistake was made – it could have been far worse.

The ‘unsupported CPU’ error is a minor blip in the upgrade process and should not have any long-term Effects on the PCs it has affected. Furthermore, with the released fix, Windows users should be able to enjoy all of the great features brought by the Windows 11 update, free from the ‘unsupported CPU’ error. The combination of the new features and greatly improved performance should make the wait worthwhile.
