Polestar has joined forces with Mobileye to make the first ever production vehicle that has hands-off and eyes-off driving capabilities. Mobileye’s groundbreaking technology will be featured in the upcoming Polestar 4, allowing drivers to take their hands off the wheel and eyes off the road while on the highway.
Mobileye’s award-winning technology utilizes a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and real-time sensors to enable hands-off and eyes-off operations on highways by keeping the vehicle in its lane and at a pre-selected speed. To ensure safety, the system is also equipped with a driver attention safety system that will sound an alarm if it senses that the driver is not paying attention.
The Polestar 4, set for production in 2022, will be the first vehicle to feature this groundbreaking technology. The new EV will also come with a 300 kW motor and a 78 kWh battery pack, allowing it to travel up to 450 kilometres on a single charge. Additionally, the interior of the vehicle will be filled with modern luxuries like heated seats, a 17-inch portrait infotainment display, and 10-speaker system.
The massive leap forward in transportation offered by the Mobileye and Polestar collaboration is a sign of things to come in the automotive industry. As self-driving technologies continue to become more sophisticated and reliable, drivers should feel more comfortable and relaxed on the road as they get to enjoy the ride without the fear of a car accident.
With the Polestar 4, Mobileye has once again proved that it remains at the forefront of cutting-edge driving technologies. This new technology will certainly help pave the way for self-driving cars and revolutionize the way we travel.
