The Darkness could be getting a PC remaster, Nightdive Studios CEO hints

In an exciting development for fans of the classic horror shooter game, The Darkness, Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick hinted recently that a PC remaster of the title could soon be on the way.

Originally developed by Starbreeze Studios and released back in 2007, The Darkness is a shooter game set in the modern day, where players take on the role of crime boss Jackie Estacado. He is also the host of an ancient form of evil that takes the form of creatures called “Darklings.” The Darkness was praised for its inventive story, atmosphere and interesting combat.

However, since its initial release, The Darkness has gone without a proper PC port or remaster. That could all soon be changing, though, as during a recent interview with Just Push Start, Kick teased that development on a PC version of The Darkness is underway.

He did not give much away in the interview beyond hinting that they are “investigating what a modern remaster of The Darkness could look like.” He also noted that he enjoyed working with Starbreeze Studios on the original game, and that he would like to explore the possibility of re-releasing the title.

This is a long-awaited piece of news for PC gamers, as the only current release for The Darkness is an Xbox 360 edition. If Nightdive Studios does decide to move forward with the project, then PC players will finally have the chance to experience one of the most beloved horror shooters of all time in higher resolutions.

For now, Nightdive Studios, have not offered any official confirmation on if the remaster will be released. Still, fans can take comfort in the fact that Kick’s comments suggest that the developer is actively looking into the possibility. Hopefully, The Darkness does indeed get the remaster that it deserves to allow a new generation of players to experience the classic game.
