Today marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, and to commemorate his life and legacy, actress and close friend Lupita Nyong’o paid tribute to him on her social media.
On August 28th, 2020, a dark cloud descended on Hollywood when the news of Boseman’s death broke. Chadwick, who was just 43-years-old, had been privately battling colon cancer for the past four years. Despite his diagnosis, he continued to work diligently on multiple films and earned a posthumous Academy Award nomination for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
In tribute of his incredible life and work in the film industry, Lupita Nyong’o posted a heartfelt message to her deceased friend and colleague. In her post, she wrote, “The world mourned the loss of a great artist and a nicer person when we lost Chadwick. Since his passing, we’ve been reflecting on the endless moments of shock and grief, joy and laughter we shared. At the same time, my heart is at peace knowing that he’s with his ancestors.”
Nyong’o also spoke of Boseman’s impact, stating, “Chadwick’s life touched us in many ways. He showed us what true passion looks like through his commitment to the craft and to lifting others up. He showed us the power of representation and uplifting our communities with undeniable conviction and integrity. He showed us that anything is possible if you stay focused, have faith, and keep moving forward. We honor Chadwick’s memory and legacy today, and every day.”
The passing of Chadwick Boseman continues to be felt in the film industry and around the world. Despite his seemingly short life, Boseman left a lasting impact and touched many people, including Lupita Nyong’o. It is clear that despite his absence, he will never be forgotten.
