Fortnite has removed item rarities and some players aren’t happy

Fortnite, the immensely popular battle royale game developed by Epic Games, has stirred up a storm in its gaming community by removing item rarities in its latest update. While the change aims to level the playing field for all players, some are expressing their dissatisfaction and belief that it undermines the game’s essence.

Since its release in 2017, Fortnite has established itself as a game of skill, strategy, and luck. The addition of item rarities, which categorized weapons and other items based on their power and rarity, added an extra layer of excitement and anticipation to gameplay. Rare loot items were sought after as they often provided a significant advantage over opponents. Higher rarity items were often harder to find, adding an element of luck to the game. This was seen as an incentive for players to explore the map and engage in battles, creating a dynamic and ever-changing experience.

However, with the recent update, Fortnite has taken a bold step by removing these item rarities, much to the chagrin of a vocal portion of its player base. The change is part of Epic Games’ ongoing efforts to balance the game and create a more level playing field. By doing so, they aim to reduce the impact of luck and increase the importance of player skill in determining the outcome of matches.

Epic Games argues that removing rarities will make the game more accessible and enjoyable for newcomers or less skilled players. With the removal of rarities, finding a weapon becomes solely a matter of luck, rather than being influenced by rarity tiers. In theory, this will provide all players an equal opportunity to compete based solely on their in-game abilities.

However, many long-term players are not convinced. They argue that Fortnite’s charm lies in its unpredictable nature and the thrill of finding rare and powerful items. With the removal of item rarities, they fear that the game will become monotonous and repetitive, losing the sense of excitement that comes with every new match.

Furthermore, some argue that the removal of rarities undermines the time and effort they have invested in the game. Obtaining rare items, grinding for better loot, and outperforming opponents were all part of the satisfaction and motivation to play the game. By removing the item rarities, Epic Games risks alienating and demotivating this dedicated player base.

Additionally, rare items often led to strategic decisions, where players had to evaluate the risk of engaging in fights for the chance to obtain better loot. Removing such incentives may lead to less dynamic gameplay and a reduction in the overall competitive nature of Fortnite.

However, it is worth noting that not all players are unhappy with the change. Some believe that the removal of rarities will level the playing field and encourage fairer competition. They argue that this shift will allow for more skilled players to shine, as the outcome of the matches will be solely reliant on their abilities rather than the weapons they possess.

Only time will tell whether the removal of item rarities will have a positive or negative impact on Fortnite’s player base. Ultimately, the decision made by Epic Games aims to redefine the game and its principles. While some players may be disgruntled with the change, it is important to remember that Fortnite’s success has always been grounded in its ability to adapt and evolve.
