For Windows 10 users who uses Groove Music for their music streaming, groove it out- it’s the end of the music streaming line for Groove Music. The Groove Music Player service in Windows 10 will be discontinued at the end of this year and will be replaced by Microsoft’s own Media Player.
This move by Microsoft comes as an effort to simplify user experience when it comes to music streaming, which can be done through Music and Films & TV, a feature already existing in Windows 10. To that end, Microsoft will be integrating music streaming into existing Windows Media Player, which will be named as Microsoft “Media”.
The last day to buy a Groove Music Pass subscription is December 31, and those who already have subscriptions must cancel it. However, users’ existing music collections will not be affected, they will still be able to move their music from OneDrive to a PC, and from a PC to a mobile device.
The new Media Player will offer music streaming service from Spotify, and may just as well come with a clean, modern design that is adapted to play music from streaming services, much like Apple’s Music app. Music Playlists on Groove Music can be imported directly, thus adding convenience for users.
This new integration does not come as a shocker- in the past years Microsoft has taken many changes in the direction of simplifying user experience and Groove Music was one of the selected experiences that had to be changed.
So, Groove Music is moving on to the world of digital obsolescence, and Windows 10 users will now have to get used to the new Media Player in order to continue listening to their music.
