Elon Musk, the world’s most popular tech billionaire, recently admitted that there are too many ads on Twitter, but he is confident that a fix is coming soon.
In response to a tweet about “too many ads on Twitter” by a user, Musk said, “We hear you. Looking into it”. After that, he posted a follow-up tweet saying that “Twitter has gone overboard with the ads lately … Working on fixing it now.”
While Musk didn’t elaborate on how a fix will be implemented, the development should come as a welcome sign for users who were hoping that their favorite platform won’t be overrun with constant advertising. Despite the posts, Musk is still a fan of the platform, recently tweeting that he still uses Twitter “every day”.
It’s not the first time that Musk has addressed the issue of ads on Twitter. In October 2019, he wrote a long thread on Twitter addressing the issue of ads “cluttering” the platform. In that thread he argued that Twitter was becoming “a lot less useful” because of the “ever increasing number of ads”.
Since Musk is so closely associated with Twitter, he is likely the perfect person to work on solving the issue. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has yet to comment on Musk’s tweets, but it’s likely he will take action soon.
Twitter has become a hugely popular platform for people, businesses, and brands all over the world. As such, it’s understandable that advertisers are looking to take advantage of the same platform for increased visibility. Still, there is a delicate balance between ads and content, and it looks like Musk and Dorsey are looking to restore the balance on Twitter.
Until a fix is put in place, however, users of Twitter are likely to continue to see an excessive number of ads on their timeline. While it can be annoying, it’s reassuring to know that two of the brightest minds in tech are working to handle the issue.
