Garmin adds FDA-cleared EKGs to its Venu 2 Plus smartwatch

The popular fitness brand Garmin recently revealed the Venu 2 Plus smartwatch, which will come with a novel feature: FDA-cleared electrocardiogram (EKGs). This marks the first time a device of this kind is included in a wristwatch.

The Venu 2 Plus smartwatch has a silver aluminum case and a 1.3” AMOLED display and comes with a variety of exercise and wellness programs, making it a comprehensive fitness companion. The new FDA-cleared EKG feature is an added bonus. With the help of this new feature, the watch can detect signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib), a type of irregular heart rhythm that carries a heightened risk of stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related conditions.

The EKG readings taken by the Venu 2 Plus are non-invasive and require no additional devices or add-ons to conduct. Instead, the readings are taken by placing two fingers from one hand onto the designated area on both sides of the watch. The function lasts for 30 seconds and then displays the results on the watch’s user interface. Additionally, the watch will also show readings over the course of days, weeks, or months.

The Venu 2 Plus smartwatch is a great device for those who want to take charge of their health by keeping an eye on their heart rate. With the new FDA-cleared electrocardiogram (EKG) feature, users can now have more detailed insights into their heart health. This is a big move for Garmin, as it sets the stage for other fitness wearable brands to add similar features to their products.
