The Amazon Halo Rise would be a neat sleep tracker, if it weren’t for my cat

These days, sleep tracking is becoming big business. There are lots of devices out there which track our sleep and provide feedback, with the Amazon Halo Rise being one of the most advanced options. On paper, the Halo Rise looks like a dream (pun unintended). It is able to track sleep stages, calories burned and even breathing rates of its users during sleep.

That all sounds great – until you own a pet. And if you own a pet, like a cat in this case, your sleep tracking dreams are likely to go up in smoke. Yes, the Halo Rise seems like a neat sleep tracker, but its main issue is that it is unable to differentiate between human and animal movements.

So if you own a pet, then chances are you are going to get some inaccurate data while tracking your sleep. If your cat enjoys sleeping in your bed, then the movements it makes while doing so will be registered as yours and will affect your sleep tracking results.

The good news is that the Amazon Halo Rise does have a few features which might help mitigate the inaccurate data caused by having a pet. The first being its ‘alerts’ feature which allows you to set up specific alerts for pet activity in your bedroom. This can help you to identify if your pet is waking itself up at night or just making noise which might otherwise be misinterpreted as your movement.

The Halo Rise also has the ‘Sleep Sounds’ feature, which plays soothing music, white noise and ocean sounds to help you drift off to sleep and avoid outside noises, including any pet-related ones.

Finally, the Halo Rise offers a ‘Restful Sleep’ report which can be used to overview your sleeping patterns, helping you to distinguish between times when you are naturally restless due to pet movement and times when you are truly not getting a good night’s sleep.

All in all, the Amazon Halo Rise could be a great sleep tracker, even if you own a pet. All you need to do is take advantage of its features to get the most accurate results.
