Twitter Co-Founder Biz Stone Says Elon’s the Wrong Person for Social App

Picture a world without the social media titan, Twitter. That was not the case, until the creative minds and business skills of Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass and Biz Stone unleashed this powerful social platform in 2006. Dorsey and Stone, who went on to become pioneering influencers within the technology industry, recently discussed their thoughts on Elon Musk’s proposal that social media should move away from a “like” button and towards a heart emoji.

During the Capitol Hill hearing on social media regulation, Stone argued that Musk was the wrong person to make these decisions due to his personal interests. Stone believes that Musk is a self-interest entrepreneur who has acted irresponsibly in the past. He stated that Musk should not be the one deciding the future of how people interact on social media platforms.

Stone does not reject Musk’s idea that like buttons should be replaced with a heart emoji, however. Stone and Dorsey agree that it could be a positive step towards creating more meaningful interactions on social media platforms. For example, a heart emoji could signify that someone is in agreement with, or is emotionally moved by, a post or comment.

Furthermore, Stone believes that instead of focusing solely on a like button, social media platforms should pay more attention to creating a healthier online community. He contends that social media companies should be doing more to protect individuals from online harassment and bullying, as well as curating content that is thoughtful and respectful of different backgrounds and perspectives.

Ultimately, Stone believes that the focus of social media platforms should be actively engaging people in a meaningful way, not just getting them to like or heart posts they agree with. He argues that while Elon Musk may be a brilliant entrepreneur in many ways, he is the wrong person to dictate the future trends of social media platforms.
