The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself Becomes Another Netflix Casualty

The Netflix original series “The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself,” which premiered on the streaming service in June 2020, has officially been canceled. This news came as a surprise to many fans, as the series had garnered a sizable following and earned a wide array of positive reviews.

The series revolved around a group of misfit characters in 19th century Norway, including a young bastard son and his close friend, a devil-forged mask called the “Devil Himself.” The show’s plot revolved around these two misfits as they faced and overcame various challenges, with a dash of Magical Realism. The series received generally positive reviews from audiences, with many praising its unique plot and characters.

Unfortunately, due to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the series was unable to finish filming the second season before the cancellation announcement. The cast and crew have expressed their disappointment about the cancellation and the unfinished narrative arc of the first season.

Many Netflix originals, such as “Bless the Harts”, “Arrested Development” and the recently canceled “Cobra Kai”, have enjoyed long runs on the streaming service despite various production issues. But with the global pandemic leaving many productions up in the air, it is no surprise that some shows may face the axe.

The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself may have been cut short, but its presence on Netflix introduced many viewers to a unique selection of characters and storytelling. The cancelation may come as a disappointment for fans of the series, but its legacy will be remembered for years to come.
