Google recently announced that YouTube Shorts, its short-form video platform, has crossed 50 billion daily views. YouTube Shorts was first launched in September 2020 and was designed as a competitor to other short-form videos platforms like TikTok.
Google claims that YouTube Shorts is becoming increasingly popular on the platform, with users watching hundreds of millions of YouTube Shorts every day. This number further indicates that the platform has become a genuine threat to TikTok.
The company says that people are using YouTube Shorts for a wide range of use cases, from watching educational videos to creating their own videos for entertainment. Some of the popular topics in YouTube Shorts include DIYs and how-tos, art and music, cooking and baking, and funny videos.
YouTube Shorts is also becoming a popular platform for influencers and advertisers. Google claims that over 3 million channels have created Shorts, and more than 95% of these channels have over 10,000 subscribers. It also said that over 700,000 advertiser/brand campaigns have already run on YouTube Shorts, with more than 20 million viewers watching advertiser/brand campaigns on YouTube Shorts every day.
Google also announced a new feature for YouTube Shorts that will be rolling out soon – Multi-segment videos. This new feature will make it easier for creators to create longer videos for YouTube Shorts by giving them access to multiple clips that can be shared in one video. This feature should help creators better curate content for their audiences.
YouTube Shorts has been an outright success for Google and the company is now looking to expand the platform by adding more features. Google is reportedly planning to add features such as support for vertical and horizontal orientations, integration with music services, and shorter video lengths.
With YouTube Shorts crossing 50 billion daily views, Google is now looking to make the platform even more successful in the coming months. It remains to be seen what impact this platform will have on other short-form video platforms like TikTok.
