Microsoft thinks AI can beat Google at search — CEO Satya Nadella explains why

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella believes that the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) can surpass Google’s search engine capability to become the most comprehensive source of information. In a speech at Microsoft’s Ignite conference, Nadella laid out how improvements in natural language processing and other AI techniques could help the company’s search engine Bing surpass Google’s search capabilities.

Nadella explained that the traditional search model is based on finding exact matches, while AI-based search allows us to understand the context and make more relevant search queries. He argued that AI-enabled search would bring together multiple sources of information, allowing people to search for information across various sources quickly and effectively.

The CEO noted that Microsoft is already leveraging AI in Bing to offer more useful and comprehensive search results. AI has helped Bing provide richer answers, including videos, maps, images and related topics, to help the users get to the content faster.

Going forward, Microsoft plans to develop more advanced AI capabilities that can provide contextual and personalized information to people searching for answers. For example, Microsoft is using its AI technology to build a more intelligent version of Bing, with the ability to understand conversations and better anticipate user requests.

Nadella believes that Microsoft AI-based search would not only be more comprehensive compared to Google’s search engine, but it would also be more secure, since Microsoft can guarantee the authenticity of the information collected through its search engine.

Overall, it is clear that Microsoft is investing significant effort into its search engine capabilities, especially in the area of AI. With efforts to create more advanced AI and contextual search capabilities, Microsoft could soon be on par, if not surpass Google’s search engine capabilities. It will be interesting to watch how Microsoft’s efforts pan out in the coming years.
