Tim Cook admits that iPhones use Sony camera sensors

On August 28th, 2019, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed during Apple’s quarterly earnings call that iPhones use camera sensors from Sony. This statement has been met with both surprise and delight among Apple fans and industry insiders as this news is a first for the notoriously secretive giant.

The success of the iPhone has been largely attributed to its excellence in camera technology. The dual lens, wide-angle and telephoto capabilities have made even the more affordable models in the range capable of capturing stunning images. But the data regarding what brand actually supplied their cameras’ hardware was never available to the public.

However, now that CEO Tim Cook has broadly asserted that Sony is the one providing the camera sensors, Apple fans can thank Sony for the much talked about iPhone quality camera.

Sony has undoubtedly reached a new level of recognition with this announcement. As the second-largest camera sensor maker in the world, Sony’s sensors have been used in many other smartphones from manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei, and LG. However, the fact that these sensors are also used in all Apple products has given the company a much wider reach, and an added brand value in the consumer electronics market.

The fact that Apple, which is notorious for its stringent policy with its suppliers, has openly revealed the brand behind its sensors for the first time is one of the most momentous happenstances in the tech industry. It certainly shows that Sony has earned the trust of one of the biggest tech behemoths in the world.

Tim Cook’s announcement also proves that Apple values both its consumers and its partners. Not only do they get the technologically advanced and reliable camera sensors they need, but they get them from a trusted source.

Thanks to Tim Cook’s announcement, Apple fans have an insight into the mind of their CEO and are learning more about the hardware used in the iPhones. With the help of this knowledge, they can expect to get nothing but the very best in camera quality.
