Despite the success of the 2020 remake of the classic horror title Silent Hill 2, many fans of the franchise have been left in the dark with the next project from developers. Well, the wait for what’s next is finally over as developer Ben driftwood announced that he is currently working on a new survival horror game.
Unlike Silent Hill 2, this new game will be completely original, unconnected to any previous entries in the franchise. Driftwood explained that the game follows a protagonist who is in a strange new world and has to find his way out. The player will be able to explore a unique environment filled with dark secrets and strange encounters as they make their way through the adventure.
It’s been confirmed that the new game will take place during ‘night time’ as Driftwood is keen to create a feeling of loneliness and tension for players as they explore the world. It is also suggested that the game will have a larger focus on environmental storytelling as Driftwood intends to give players a greater connection to the world.
Driftwood is clearly designing a game that will challenge the genre, offering players a fresh, unique take on survival horror. He wants to combine the best elements of horror video games with a unique visual style and hopefully, create something that can please both fans of the genre and even people who are new to it.
You can expect a good balance between action and suspense, emphasising the need to run, hide and explore. As you can tell, Driftwood is going for a much more open-world experience than what we saw with Silent Hill 2.
Details about the release date and platforms for the game are yet to be announced, but it’s certainly an exciting time for fans of the genre. With the combination of horror and open-world exploration, it’s definitely going to be a horror title worth keeping your eye on.
