Sorry Microsoft, UK government’s seen ‘No evidence’ the Nintendo Switch can run Call of Duty

The UK government has recently weighed in on the ongoing debate over whether the Nintendo Switch can ultimately run Call of Duty, a popular first person shooter game created by Microsoft.

The debate began shortly after the launch of the Nintendo Switch – Microsoft’s rival in the console gaming arena – when eagle-eyed gamers claimed to have noticed the console running a version of the game. However, in a recent statement from the UK government, it was announced that the authority “sees no evidence to suggest the Nintendo Switch can run Call of Duty”.

The reasons behind the UK government’s stance appear to relate to hardware requirements and compatibility, with the Switch proving unable to provide the necessary computing power to successfully run the game. But with the Switch already offering a diverse selection of titles, many game enthusiasts find themselves frustrated with the latest news as they had been hoping that the Switch’s sophisticated visual capabilities would bring Call of Duty to a much wider audience.

Debates over the game’s compatibility had previously been ongoing prior to the government’s statement, with Microsoft themselves saying that “We have seen no evidence to suggest the Nintendo Switch can run Call of Duty”. They followed this up with the official line – a “no comment”.

The news may come as a disappointment to fans, but with the Switch already delivering great titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, there’s no denying Nintendo’s increasing footprint in the gaming industry. And with Microsoft and Nintendo continuing to battle it out for market share in the console gaming space, only time will tell whether fans of Call of Duty will eventually get to play the game on the Switch.
