The EV era is ushering in a new age of efficient and clean transportation solutions, with many automotive companies adopting a heavy focus towards electric mobility. While most of the industry has embraced modern designs, one company is looking to bring rustic, classic style back to the electric vehicle space. Scout Motors, a start-up based in Silicon Valley, is working to bring rugged, retro cred to the EV era.
Founded in 2019 by former Tesla senior engineers, Scout Motors have made it their mission to create retro-themed SUVs with a focus on a clean and sustainable product. In partnership with several leading vehicle manufacturers, the company has developed several prototypes that bring the classic aesthetic of the vintage gas-guzzling SUVs to the EV space. Utilizing the latest in technology and materials, Scout Motors is able to create robust off-road-capable vehicles that can easily drive over difficult terrain.
The company’s first vehicle, the Scout Scout, is slated for release later this year and is set to become the first electric off-road SUV. Featuring a classic American short-bed design, the SUV will tout a top speed of nearly 75 mph as well as a range of over 150 miles per charge. With capable all-wheel-drive, the Scout Scout will be the perfect choice for those who want the classic look with modern performance. Additionally, the company has plans to build a four-door electric pickup truck and a two-person electric motorcycle.
In addition to the vehicle designs, Scout Motors is also investing heavily into their recharge infrastructure. The company is currently building a large network of public electric vehicle charging stations that will be able to accommodate up to 12 vehicles at a time. This network will help ensure that all of the electric vehicles produced by the company will have access to a charging location no matter where they are on the road.
