How to shoot ProRAW on an iPhone

It’s an exciting time for photography fans, as Apple recently announced the introduction of ProRAW to the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. ProRAW gives photographers a powerful new tool – combining the advanced features of Apple’s Neural Engine with the high-quality RAW capabilities of top-of-the-line DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Here’s a guide on how to take advantage of the new ProRAW format on your iPhone.

First, make sure you have the latest iOS update installed on your iPhone. This was released by Apple to enable ProRAW capabilities.

To enable ProRAW camera settings, tap on the Camera app, and then select the gear icon in the top-right corner. Scroll down and find the ‘Formats’ option, which will allow you to switch from the standard .jpg format to Apple ProRAW. Note that an Apple ProRAW is denoted as ‘.DNG’ on the camera App.

Once you’ve switched to DNG format, you’ll notice a few additional settings in the camera app for ProRAW. These include ‘White Balance’, ‘Zoom’ and ‘Noise Reduction’. Use these settings to fine-tune your image before you capture it, giving you the opportunity to make any adjustments before the shot is taken.

When you’re ready to take the photo, tap on the shutter icon as usual. However, if you want to save the RAW image and continue editing it later, you’ll need to tap the ‘Edit’ button after the photo is captured. This will open up the RAW image, which you can then save and edit in Apple’s Photos app.

Finally, the new ProRAW format is a great tool for photographers and filmmakers alike. It allows you to capture images with the superior quality of a RAW file and the advanced features of Apple’s Neural Engine. With ProRAW, you can capture stunning images and videos that are sure to impress anyone who admires your work.
