It looks like director Jack Bender is ready to take a plunge into a galaxy far, far away. Bender, who is best known for his work on the hit series Lost, is reportedly in talks with Disney to helm a new Star Wars series, and he has big plans.
Bender is said to be interested in helming a trilogy, with the first installment focusing on a group of Jedi survivors after the fall of the galactic Empire. The story will center around a group of survivors dealing with the fall out from the Empire’s destruction and their journey in search of the truth.
Disney is said to be open to the idea, as they have been looking to expand their slate of Star Wars related projects. The company has already found success with their new franchise, The Mandalorian, and are looking to create an expansive series of content derived from George Lucas’ popular universe.
At this point, there are no further details available and no official comment yet made by either Bender or Disney. But, with Bender’s experience and passion for creating emotionally driven stories, the studio should be more than willing to take a chance on the director’s vision.
This would be the first time Disney has hired a director to helm a whole trilogy of Star Wars related projects. If the deal is finalized and Bender follows through, it could be a major boon for Disney and the Star Wars franchise. With Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story both indicating a possible revamp of the series, the hiring of Bender to helm a full-on trilogy gives Disney the opportunity to kick off this reboot in a big way.
