In a move to make Windows 10 more user-friendly, Microsoft is testing a feature that provides personalized file recommendations in the Windows Explorer.
The feature, currently in testing as part of Microsoft’s Insider Program, is designed to make it easier for users to find the files they’re looking for by suggesting relevant files as they are browsing a folder. This innovation has come about as an effort to improve productivity, as users will no longer have to comb through the files to find the desired document.
The feature will utilize AI to provide helpful recommendations. It will predict files or folders that the user may want based on their past usage patterns. For example, if a user frequently accesses a PDF file at a certain time of day, they may be suggested the same PDF in the future.
Microsoft has also implemented a ‘Frequent Sources’ section that allows users to quickly access recently used documents, as well as recent folders. The feature should save users time when they are looking for specific files, as they won’t need to wait for results to load.
The feature is an opt-in program, so users will have to enable it if they want to take advantage of the features provided. Users can enable the feature in Settings>Explorer.
In addition to the file recommendations, Microsoft has also added several other features to Explorer, such as the ability to check a file’s properties quickly and access Xbox Live games from the Explorer sidebar.
