Windows 11 preview shows a File Explorer ready to recommend what you open next

As Windows 11 starts to gain traction across the world, the public has been given a preview of some of the exciting advancements set to arrive when the update is finally available. One of the most interesting new features of Windows 11 is the “File Explorer,” which promises to be a smarter and more powerful tool than ever before.

At first glance, the File Explorer looks very similar to the one seen with Windows 10. However, what sets this one apart is its ability to recommend the next file or folder that you should open. For example, if you work on the same document frequently, Windows 11 will remember and suggest it for you the next time you open the File Explorer. Ultimately, this should help streamline workflows and reduce the amount of time users spend searching for files.

In addition to being able to recommend the next file or folder that you should open, the File Explorer in Windows 11 also features a “drag-and-drop” option. This functions similarly to the “drag-and-drop” feature seen in other programs like Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Word. With this option, users will be able to quickly move files, folders, or even entire drives across the operating system. This should come in handy for people that regularly work with large files and need to transfer them between laptops or desktop computers.

The File Explorer has also seen a few cosmetic changes. For one, the explorer’s color palette has been changed to more vibrant and modern colors. Microsoft has also done away with the traditional listing view and replaced it with a “tile” view. This enables users to view the contents of the folder by hovering their mouse over the tile for a preview. Additionally, users will also be able to instantly search for any contents within the explorer, meaning that you won’t have to manually search through folders to locate a document.

While many of us are excited for the launch of Windows 11, the File Explorer preview has been a pleasant surprise. With its improved navigation and searching capabilities as well as its ability to recommend the next file or folder you should open, the File Explorer is sure to make navigating the Windows 11 operating system a much more pleasant experience.
