Meta launches paid verification on Instagram and Facebook in the US

Social media giant Meta has announced the launch of a groundbreaking new feature: paid verification on Instagram and Facebook in the United States. This move marks the latest chapter in Meta’s continued effort to ensure an overall secure and verified experience for its users.

With the launch of paid verification, Meta users across the United States now have the option to become verified on both Instagram and Facebook. Only those accounts that meet Meta’s criteria for certification are eligible for the new paid verification feature. To be eligible for verification, accounts must provide a valid government-issued ID, have a publicly viewable profile picture, and have a real account presence in the United States.

In addition to confirming a user’s identity, the paid verification process also entails filling out a full profile, providing a minimum of three references from non-family and non-friends, as well as giving a statement why they should be given the verified status. After being verified, users will receive a checkmark on both Instagram and Facebook.

The new paid verification feature is designed to reduce the spread of malicious content and provide users with a sense of comfort that their online accounts and identities are secure. Since many users look for a verified symbol when engaging with content, the checkmark is a tangible symbol that distinguishes the authenticity of a user’s account.

For Meta users, the satisfaction and confidence of knowing that their accounts are securely verified should provide peace of mind when engaging on the platform. The introduction of this feature also adds to Meta’s promise of a safe and secure network, setting a new industry standard for verified users.

Meta is setting the stage for a future where verified users have a more secure and powerful voice in the social media sphere. With more accountability and trust, online discourse can remain civil and respectful, furthering the mission of an open and secure online experience.
