Jon Kasdan Sets the Record Straight On Willow’s ‘Cancelation’
Jon Kasdan, the writer of Disney Plus’ upcoming live-action show Willow, recently set the record straight on whether or not the show had been ‘canceled’. Kasdan took to Twitter to tell fans that the show was only ever ‘postponed’ and that there are still plans to move forward with production.
Willow was first announced in October of last year. The show was set to be a sequel to the 1988 film of the same name, which starred Val Kilmer as the titular character. Since the announcement, there has been much speculation as to the show’s status. While some sources reported that the show had been ‘canceled’, Kasdan has now clarified that this was not necessarily the case.
Kasdan said that while production had been postponed due to the pandemic, the show was only “paused, not canceled”. He went on to say that the pandemic had presented challenges to production, but that they were committed to making the show a reality and that they had already made “great progress” in developing the show.
Kasdan’s remarks come at a time when many shows have been affected by the pandemic. With so much uncertainty in the industry, fans of Willow were understandably worried about the show’s fate. However, thanks to Kasdan’s statements, fans can now rest assured that Willow is only ‘postponed’ and not ‘canceled.’
Although production has been delayed, the cast of Willow is still very much involved. Ron Howard, the original director of the film, is returning to executive produce the series. As well, Val Kilmer has been cast to reprise his role as Willow. He will be joined by other members of the original cast, including Warwick Davis and Joanne Whalley.
It is clear that Jon Kasdan and the team behind Willow are passionate about bringing the beloved franchise to life once again. With any luck, the show will be able to resume production soon, and fans will be able to enjoy the adventurers of Willow and Madmartigan once more.
