Kasdan Record

When the popular Disney+ series Willow was suddenly “canceled” after just one season, many fans were left scratching their heads in confusion. Fortunately, series creator Jon Kasdan was quick to set the record straight on the decision and clear up any misunderstandings.

Kasdan was quick to explain that the show’s development was interrupted by the ongoing pandemic and that the lack of filming prevented them from creating the narrative they wanted. Despite the hiccup, Kasdan stressed that the show was never actually “canceled,” but rather placed on an indefinite hold. He also shared that they were in the middle of creating season two and discussed his vision for future seasons.

Kasdan was also quick to point out that the show had been in production long before the pandemic. It was well into the writing process and had already completed the detailed previsualization process. Unfortunately, the unprecedented times made it impossible for the production team to proceed without risking both the safety of the cast and crew and the expected quality of the show.

For Kasdan, it was ultimately a decision of quality over quantity. He didn’t want to rush the creative process in order to meet a certain release date. He wanted instead to create something special and unique that would satisfy fans in both the short and long terms.

In order to put fans’ minds at ease, Kasdan also revealed that the studio was still invested in the project and that the rights for future seasons remain with the show’s original team. Despite the current hold, there is still potential for future stories to be told.

At the end of the day, Kasdan’s comments provide some valuable insight into the production/development process of a major franchise and they serve to provide some hope to fans. Even though the show may be on hold, the team is still working hard to deliver something special. Until then, fans can look forward to re-watching the first season and eagerly awaiting news of future installments.
