Microsoft reportedly orders AI chatbot rivals to stop using Bing’s search data

Microsoft has made headlines again as it orders two of its rivals to stop using Bing’s search data to power their chatbot services. The two companies in question are Glow and Ruuh, who have been accused of using the search engine’s data without prior authorization.

Glow and Ruuh—two Indian startups—have both been accused of infringing on Microsoft’s intellectual property rights. The two companies have reportedly been using Bing’s search data to power their chatbot services, which allow users to ask questions and receive answers in natural language.

Microsoft claims that the use of the search data has provided Glow and Ruuh with a competitive advantage and has resulted in a loss of potential revenue for the tech giant. As a result, Microsoft has demanded that the two companies cease using Bing’s search data and delete any such information, or face legal action.

Glow and Ruuh have both stated that they have complied with Microsoft’s request and have deleted all collected data. The startups have also sought to explain their actions, claiming that they had not realized that the use of the search data without permission was in violation of the law.

Microsoft’s actions come as the tech industry continues to grapple with the ever-growing debate around the ethical implications of artificial intelligence (AI). Microsoft and other tech giants have been vocal in their support of stronger regulations around the use of AI and machine learning, and are striving to ensure that such technology is used responsibly.

This latest move from Microsoft is a clear signal that the tech giant is serious about maintaining control of its intellectual property, and that it is not afraid to take legal action against those who violate its rights. It remains to be seen whether other startups and companies will be deterred after this incident, or whether it will be seen as a warning to others who may be tempted to use Bing’s data without permission.
