Two Tomb Raider games just got last-minute delays into 2023

The wait for the next installment of the beloved franchise Tomb Raider just got longer. Square Enix, the publisher of the franchise, just announced that the two upcoming titles, Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy, have both been pushed back to 2023.

The timing of the announcement is especially disappointing for fans who have been waiting for the next installment of the series since the last title (Rise of the Tomb Raider) was released in 2015. The release of the Definitive Edition was expected to give the series a much-needed reboot while the Trilogy sought to combine all three of the most recent titles into one package.

However, those plans are now on hold. Square Enix did not offer a reason for the delay, but it is likely due to various production and development issues. Without giving any specifics, it’s impossible to tell why the games have been delayed, but the two titles have undoubtedly been facing similar production hurdles.

Given that the two titles were in the late stages of development, it seems likely that these delays are due to the complexity of the games. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, in particular, has been in the works for over four years, with the developers constantly tweaking and refining the experience.

For now, fans of the series will have to remain patient and wait for the games to arrive in 2023. It’s a long wait, but hopefully, these titles will live up to their potential and provide a memorable adventure for players. Until then, fans can still enjoy some of the older games in the series, which remain just as enjoyable as ever.
