LastPass says hackers stole customers’ password vaults

In early June of 2020, the secure online password manager, LastPass, announced that hackers were able to gain access to some of their customers’ password vaults. LastPass is one of the most trusted online password managers and is used by millions of customers worldwide. Needless to say, the news that their secure system had been compromised was a cause of great concern for LastPass customers.

According to LastPass, the hackers were able to exploit a “zero-day vulnerability” in its system, allowing them to gain access to customers’ password vaults. This vulnerability was patched quickly after it was discovered and the company immediately began investigating the incident.

LastPass was quick to point out that the hackers were only able to gain access to credentials stored in vaults and did not have access to any other parts of their system. LastPass also said that it was able to identify which accounts were affected and took steps to secure these accounts.

In order to protect their customers from further harm, LastPass has launched an “Authenticator Security Program” which requires customers to use two-factor authentication when they log in to their LastPass accounts. This means that customers will need to enter a code or answer a security question in addition to their username and password in order to gain access to their accounts.

Although this incident was certainly a troubling event, LastPass has taken steps to ensure that their systems are now secure and that their customers’ information is safe. Moreover, the company has also announced plans to offer its customers better security measures in the future. It is always advisable to stay vigilant when it comes to your online security and LastPass is continuing to make sure that their customers are doing just that.
