Come 2021, Marvel fans are in for a treat as the beloved character Wolverine is coming to PlayStation 5 in an exclusive game. In what looks to be an exciting development for the fan-favorite superhero, we take a look at everything we know about it so far.
The game is being developed by Sony subsidiary, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio (SIE Japan Studio), in collaboration with Marvel Games and published by Square Enix. Not much is known about the game, besides the fact that it will be an action-adventure with some kind of RPG element.
We also know that there will be a major focus on Wolverine’s power of regeneration. Players will be able to customize Wolverine’s weapons and use them to unlock different abilities in order to survive in the game’s unforgiving environments.
The game’s visual style looks to be a mix between realistic and cel-shaded, as seen in older titles from Sony’s Japan Studio, like Knack and Gravity Rush. We’re expecting an even more stylized look for the final product.
This isn’t the first outing for Wolverine in video games, but it’s easily the biggest. Previous chances to control the iconic X-Men member have only been available on mobile.
In the new game, players will take on the role of Logan, and his story is expected to be a fresh beginning that may even rewrite parts of the original Marvel comics. Unlike many of the previous titles, the game will not be based on existing Marvel media, such as the two Wolverine movies starring Hugh Jackman as the titular character.
The game is currently slated to launch next year exclusively on PS5. Unfortunately, there is no gameplay footage or screenshots available yet, but given the pedigree of the developers, the visuals and the combat should be something to look forward to.
As for voice actors, we assume that the iconic Australian actor Hugh Jackman, who portrayed Wolverine on the big screen, will be reprising his role for the game. A confirmation from Sony on this development is yet to be revealed.
Overall, Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5 is surely one to look forward to next year. With a stellar development team and some exciting new features, this game could easily be one of the best superhero games ever. Stay tuned for more developments on it leading up to its release next year.
