Google Drive quietly introduced a file creation limit for all users

Google Drive, the cloud storage service owned by Google, recently unveiled a new limit on file creation for all users, triggering massive online debates. The limit, which has already gone into effect, was implemented without prior announcement.

Until now, the creation of files on Google Drive was unrestricted in both quantity and type. But in an effort to reduce abuse, Google has recently imposed a limit of 750 files per user, that applies to all file types. This includes documents, images, music, video, and saved emails. If a user exceeds the limit, they won’t be able to store any new files on their account until they delete some existing files. The limit does not apply to Google Drive folders.

The news sparked angry out respones from Google users, who took to social media to express their dissatisfaction. Many criticized the lack of transparency, as Google imposed the limit without prior announcement. They argued that the file creation limit should have been more clearly projected in the terms of service before it went into effect.

Google Drive users have been able to get around the new limit by using the software’s multiple features such as compression, expanding, and moving files. However, customers are still displeased; they view the policy as a limitation of their freedom to store files on the platform.

While the announcement met with a heavy dose of criticism, some users have begun to see its merits. They argue that limiting the number of files creates better usage experience as it encourages people to be discerning about their storage strategy. This can be beneficial for businesses, schools, and institutions, who rely heavily on data storage.

The controversy highlights the need for organizations like Google to be clear and open about the limitations of their services. Customers should always be informed when an organization introduces a feature that might affect their user experience. Google’s decision to impose a file creation limit highlights the importance of transparency in an increasingly digital world.
