Pokémon Stadium is coming to Nintendo Switch, complete with all of its daft mini-games

Nintendo’s beloved N64 classic Pokémon Stadium has become the latest entry into the ever expanding collection of retro games coming to the Nintendo Switch. The game originally came out in 1999, and was quickly lauded by fans for its robust collection of Pokémon-centric mini-games, polygonal 3D battles and Stadium mode competitions. Now, as part of the Nintendo Switch Online service, players can once again enjoy all of these features plus more.

The game features improved resolution to fully take advantage of the power of the Nintendo Switch and its HD displays. While the 3D battles retain its classic polygonal charm, complete with remastered sound and music, the mini-games have been given a major overhaul. Players are able to engage in several of the series’ signature mini-games, including throwing Pokéballs at targets, a digitized version of the card game “Battle of Wits”, and even the ability to go fishing. New to the game is a wild west-style mini-game where players shoot fake Pokémon at flying targets.

Pokémon Stadium isn’t just about mini-games and 3D battles. The title also features a “Stadium Mode” which allows up to eight players to compete with each other in a variety of competitions and tournaments. Each tournament features a number of opponents who must be defeated in order to get the title of Champion. The game also comes with an extensive collection of characters and Pokémon to choose from, as well as rousing leaderboards to show off your newly acquired rankings and accomplishments.

For fans of this classic title, and those wanting to take a trip down memory lane, Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch Online service is the perfect place to jump back in – complete with all of its daft mini-games and 3D battles. The game is set to launch later this year, just in time for the Christmas season. So whether you’re a returning fan or just looking for some good old fashion fun, Pokémon Stadium is sure to provide plenty of entertainment for all.
