If you’re a fan of The Lord of the Rings franchise, you may have heard about the television show which takes place in Middle-earth. Although it certainly wasn’t the first (or the last) adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved works, the TV series has become a cult classic and has endeared itself to numerous fans over the years. Unfortunately, many viewers never got the chance to watch this show in its entirety.
It didn’t take long for the series to gain a huge following, as viewers wasted no time in becoming deeply invested in the on-screen adventures of beloved characters such as Aragorn, Gandalf, and Frodo. The show won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, only adding to its growing success.
Right as The Lord of the Rings was gaining steam, however, it was abruptly canceled. Though it was eventually revealed that the production budget had become too expensive for TNT, a sense of incompleteness still lingers whenever fans talk about the show.
Fortunately, there are many ways for viewers to catch up with the series and ensure that their experiences with Middle-earth are complete. For instance, all three seasons of the TV show have been released on Blu-ray and other digital formats, giving viewers the ability to watch the complete series from the comfort of their homes. There are also fan edits which re-order the story into chronologically-correct episodes.
The Lord of the Rings TV show may have had its fair share of ups and downs, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t change the fact that it is an important step on the journey towards fully appreciating J.R.R.
