The Street Fighter franchise is one of the most beloved fighting game series of all time. It’s been around for decades, and each installment has brought something new and exciting to the table. Now, a new iteration of the series is coming out on PS5, and it’s coming with a new fight stick. But before you go on and splurge on it, you should know that it won’t actually make you play better.
The new fight stick is a great piece of design – it has a colourful cabinet with the iconic Street Fighter logo on it, two sticks for the classic six-button layout, and plenty of additional buttons for expanding your arsenal and conquering opponents with crossovers and uppercuts. But unfortunately, this isn’t an upgrade from the old fight sticks.
You may think that buying the new stick will improve your Street Fighter game. After all, having actual buttons and sticks to play with instead of a controller gives you a better feel for the game and allows you to do combos faster, right? Wrong. The new fight stick is mostly a cosmetic upgrade, and while it might help if you’re a longtime player, it won’t help you if you’re just starting out.
The fact of the matter is that skill and experience is what makes a great Street Fighter player, not a fight stick. You can’t expect to jump right in with a fight stick, play like a pro, and expect to win. It takes time to learn the combos, timing, and special moves that make the game so great. Button control is also important, but it can be perfected with practice and muscle memory.
So don’t expect to get too much of an advantage in Street Fighter 6 on PS5 just because you bought the new fight stick. You’ll still need to hone your skills and practice if you want to be a top-tier player. However, the new fight stick will make playing the game much more enjoyable and it looks great, so don’t hesitate to buy one if you’re a Street Fighter fan.
