Sony’s new PlayStation 5 game console looks like it will be a game-changer in the video gaming console industry. But, the latest patent filed by Sony could make the world of video gaming even cooler. According to the recently filed patent, the PS5’s DualSense controller will be able to operate with liquid cooling technology.

This technology was revealed to the world in October of 2020, and could potentially revolutionize how gamers experience console gaming. Utilizing a liquid cooling circulatory system, the PS5’s DualSense would be able to reduce its temperature as much as nine degrees Celsius. This could be beneficial for competitive gamers, who rely on their controllers to work properly and quickly. Reducing the temperature of the controller could diminish lag, stuttering, and connectivity issues often experienced by gamers.

The patent details that the DualSense controller would be held in a liquid-filled chamber. After some time, the liquid in the chamber cools the controller’s component parts and is then removed to be cooled and reinserted into the chamber. This process can be done manually or via a console-connected cooling device. Although no indication of what the cooling device would be has been released, it is most likely a ventilated enclosure designed to blow cold air on the device.

The patent also notes that the DualSense can be kept cool even when the cooling device is inactive. This could be beneficial for gamers who want to enjoy their gaming sessions without the noise or disruption of a fan-based cooling device present in their vicinity.
