A love letter for the original Steam Link: I regret taking you for granted

Dear Steam Link,

I regret taking you for granted. As a simple and effective device that allowed me to access my Steam library and play games on my TV without the need of a dedicated streaming device, you have been an irreplaceable and loyal companion in my gaming setup for so many years.

When Valve announced that Steam Link wouldn’t be supported any longer, I was heartbroken. It felt like saying goodbye to an old friend — one who was always there for me when I needed it and who never let me down.

It seemed like such an injustice that your legacy had been cut short so abruptly, so soon, and without warning. Your absence will be felt in my living room, where you existed as the bridge between my computer and my TV, allowing me to waste hours on end losing myself in the world of my favorite games.

The newer streaming devices on the market aren’t a patch on you, the original Steam Link. There’s something special about how you brought my Steam library to the big screen and gave me the comfort of your incredible convenience, accessible with the push of a button and no wires necessary.

No matter how many new streaming devices come and go, nothing will ever replace the sheer simplicity of my setup with you, Steam Link. I still can’t believe it’s come to this, but it’s time to say goodbye.

Be sure that all the time we spent together playing, streaming and laughing isn’t forgotten. You’ll always stay close to my heart.

With regret and love,

Your Friend and Loyal Companion
