My New Smart Bird Feeder Showed Me That Birds Are Absolutely Brutal

As a nature lover often trying to provide sustenance to the wildlife around me, I recently decided to invest in a smart bird feeder. After months of planning, ordering, and anticipation, my new automated bird feeder was finally up and running. I was optimistic that the feeder would make my life easier, however, what I saw next shocked me.

My automated feeder was designed to disperse a portion of birdseed at a programmed time of the day, allowing me to easily provide food for the local birds. Yet, after just a few days of use I quickly discovered that the birds were absolutely brutal.

It started with a few small sparrows, they were picking away at the bird seed, as I had expected. However, before I knew it, I was soon being visited by dozens of birds vying for the food in my automated feeder. This included larger birds such as woodpeckers, cardinals and more. Not only were they picking away at the bird seed, but they were also pushing each other away and squabbling over the feeder. To add to the chaos, there were even fights between birds on the swing and while perched on the feeder itself.

It was incredible, yet absolutely stunning to witness. I had never seen such aggressive behavior from birds before, however, after some time it all seemed to calm down as the birds eventually realized when and where the food was going to be for them.

I was amazed at the behavior of these wild birds, yet also a bit sad to witness their aggression. It made me wonder what drives them to fight and compete for such basic needs; food, shelter, and protection. It was a reminder of the beauty and the brutality of nature and the lengths that some birds will go to survive.

In the end, my smart bird feeder taught me more than I expected. Birds may not be the most gentle creatures in the wild, yet they are still amazing and incredible to learn about. I am thankful that through my feeder I was able to experience what bird life is really like in the wild. The beauty and the brutality of nature is something we can all learn from.
