Some New Year’s resolutions that won’t end up in your pile of shame

As the year comes to an end and the new year is on its way, some of us are already looking back on our failed attempts at fulfilling the resolutions we made 12 months ago, while others are wondering how to set themselves up for success this time around. It’s understandable that we get all caught up with the idea of a fresh start, but when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, it’s important to keep our expectations realistic in order to avoid piling up on disappointment – and that’s why we present to you some New Year’s resolutions that won’t end up in the pile of shame.

1. Learn something new – Whether it be a new language, a new skill or even taking up a new hobby, learning something new always brings a sense of accomplishment, and turns out to be a great resolution to stick to. No matter if it’s taking a cooking class or learning a new programing language, it is both challenging and exciting, so try and make it a point to challenge yourself and devote some time to it weekly.

2. Reach out to family and friends more regularly – Rather than letting long-distance relationships linger, make a conscious effort to stay in touch this new year. Make a point of calling someone and catching up, or visiting when possible, either way, you will keep and nurture the relationships that matter to you.

3. Get organized – Organization comes in many forms and can serve as a great New Year’s resolution. It can be as small as taking better care of your finances, becoming more mindful with purchases, or simply decluttering your workspace. All these actions will ultimately lead to more clarity and direction.

4. Exercise regularly – Exercise not only keeps us in shape physically, but scientifically, it is also known to contribute in improving mental health and prevent depressive symptoms. This can be done in a variety of ways; such as picking a sport or making an appointment with a personal trainer or even simply taking some time to be active by taking a long walk, the important thing is to stay active.

5. Create a budget and stick to it – Making a budget helps us plan ahead and become aware of our spending habits while also giving us a sense of control. Knowing how much you are able to spend in each category can prevent any potential financial woes in the future, plus it can also help us save and meet goals.

By setting realistic and achievable New Year’s resolutions, we can ensure that this coming year won’t end up in our pile of shame. May this next year be a time of learning, growing and thriving in the midst of all of the madness that surrounds us.
